New In Person Drop Off Day: Saturday, October 19

WHAT: We've scheduled our next in-person Drop-Off Day for Saturday, October 19th. If you want to sell your baby and kid's clothes (Newborn to Size 14) Moxie Jean offers the easiest solution you can imagine: Just bag up your best clothes and bring them by our studio in Arlington Heights, IL (northwest suburbs of Chicago, right off Rt. 53) during the appointed hours.
WHERE: We are located at 601 W. Campus Drive, Arlington Heights, IL, around the east side of the building. Get directions.
Plus, you can also drop off in Chicago proper:

Purple Monkey Playroom (noon - 3pm only)
2040 N. Western Avenue
Chicago, Illinois 60647
WHEN:
Saturday, October 19, 2013: 9am to 4pm
HOW: Our Children's Clothing Specialists will accept your items right out of your car. We will go through it all within about a week and decide what we will purchase (everything has to be in excellent condition) and send you an email with the results and the payout. Bigger sizes and better brands earn more than baby clothes and basic brands, but you could expect somewhere around $30 per bag of clothing.
You can come pick up anything we don't accept or else it will be donated to The Kid's Pantry in Mount Prospect, IL.
Please note that Moxie Jean sets standard prices for all the clothing we purchase according to brand, size and type of item. Our payouts and complete details of what we accept can be found at our website www.moxiejean.com/seller.
Note: You can always receive a check for the proceeds. But as part of this special event we're offering a 25% premium for everyone who uses their Moxie Money to purchase from our store instead of cashing out.
WHY: if you never can find the time for a garage sale, but still want some cash (or credit)--try us out!! Let me know if you have any questions, or you can write to us at [email protected]
Thanks, and we hope to see you there!

Girl Style: Help us name our new girls' style line

Girls fashion is fun and ever-changing. At "Upscale Resale" destination Moxie Jean, our stylists put together girls' outfits that fit within one of our girls style lines:

    Little Miss Sunshine

    Free Spirit

    Tea Time

But lately, we've been finding stylish looks that don't quite fit. They have a unique vibe all their own. One of our stylists Liz describes it this way:

"This look has an urban feel with punk plaids, black & pink, skinny jeans, graphic tees, hoodies, studs, dark colors with a rock n’ roll attitude."

A few examples:

We've been debating what to call it, but then thought, "why not ask our community of moms?" So here's where you come in! Head on over to our Facebook page from Friday, Feb. 22nd through Tuesday, Feb. 26th and vote for your favorite, or if you are feeling creative, submit one of your own in the comments section.

Consignment Store vs. Resale Shop: How do they work?

These days, savvy folks everywhere are looking to make a few dollars by reselling their high quality clothing, and save money by purchasing perfectly good clothes and other items that are "pre-loved." What is the difference between "consignment" and "resale"? Which is right for you?

Definition of Consignment Store vs. Resale Shop:

"Consignment" is an arrangement where you bring something to the store and they attempt to sell it for you.

  •   * If the item sells, the store receives a cut, something like 40% of the sales price.
  •   * You only get paid when the item sells
  •   * If it doesn't sell, you will eventually be asked to take the item back home as it still belongs to you.
  •   * Consignment is usually the arrangement with high-priced items like furniture, fur coats, musical instruments and the like.
  •   * One exception is kids' consignment sales, which are "do it yourself" events for sellers who prepare, price, hang and deliver clothing, toys and gear and pay 30% or 35% of everything that sells to the sale organizer, along with a typical $10 "consignor fee."
  •   * Consignment sales like these are best for those who have time to spare and need to maximize the dollar received.

"Resale" is an arrangement where you bring something to a store and they decide on the spot whether to purchase it from you or not.

  •   * If they purchase it, they will pay you right away
  •   * You'll get cash upfront, but not as much. Why? Because the store is doing all the work and taking all the risk.
  •   * Resale is more common with lower-priced items like children's clothing, small appliances and DVDs.
  •   * Resale is best for those who want quick cash, want store credit (to shop!) or don't want to put in the extra effort to prepare items for sale.

Moxie Jean is an online option for "upscale resale." (Thousands of moms have used our service and you can read what they think.)

  •   * You can sell baby and kids' clothing to Moxie Jean without ever leaving home or preparing clothes for sale.
  •   * We purchase clothing outright and pay you in cash or store credit ("Moxie Money")
  •   * We then steam, style, photograph and upload every piece of clothing to our upscale resale site online.
  •   * One key difference: because we mail you a free Moxie Jean Mailer Bag and even pay for the postage when you send clothes in to us, we don't pay to return them as well. We donate anything we don't purchase to charities serving families in need.

5 Things Newborns Really Need -- and 4 They Definitely DON'T

Wondering what to buy for your bundle of joy? Remember that the baby will be perfectly still and clean and smell good for about 5 minutes every day. The rest of the time, babies mostly eat (messy), poop (messy), and sleep (not messy but requires comfort).

Here are the essentials you really need to keep your baby (and you!!) happy and snug those first few weeks at home.

How to Get a Great Deal on Baby and Kids' Pajamas

Those darn kids. They just keep growing. And their clothes stay the same size. Which means that my son's pajamas can be three inches too short before I decide I really better get him some new ones.

But soft fleece pajamas can be expensive! If you're lucky, you'll hit the trifecta at Kohl's: a big sale (that's easy), a nice stack of Kohl's cash, and a 30% off coupon through their MVP program that's actually good at the same time as the Kohl's cash! If that happens, then you can get some Carter's fleece PJs for maybe $10 each, instead of the usual $20.

Oh, you don't have that particular combination working for you right now?

Then check out the Moxie Jean sleepwear collection. Moxie Jean only carries pajamas and sleepers that are like-new, and range from light cotton to warm and cozy fleece, all for prices as low as $6.99 everyday, with baby sleepers (12 mos. and under) for just $4.99 everyday (or $4.50 each when you buy 2).

So keep that baby cozy, and get that kid some pajamas that fit!

And here's the kicker: when your order arrives in about 2 days, it will also include a Moxie Jean Mailer Bag that you can fill with the pajamas they have outgrown--as long as they are still in great shape. Stuff the bag full of great kids' clothes and send it back to us for store credit toward the next size.

As my daughter's preschool teacher used to say, "Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy."
